Other Species of Parrotlet
Color Mutations

In addition to the Pacific parrotlet mutations which are readily
available and well-known in the United States, there are other species of
parrotlets that also have developed color mutations. Primarily found in Europe,
these unique parrotlets will eventually make their way into the avicultural
community of the United States'. Unlike normal, wild-type species, color
mutations are regularly listed on the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's
Approved Captive Bred List for Importation, often at the bequest of the International
Parrotlet Society.
Blue Wing Parrotlets - There is now a blue color mutation
Blue Wing parrotlet that can also be found in the United States. It has a deep
true blue coloring and, as with the Pacific, is a recessive mutation.
Green Rump Parrotlets - Two color mutations of the Green
Rump parrotlet have been discovered. One is a light green or possible dilute
with dark eyes. A few pair existed in the United States several years ago
although its' status is unknown at this time. It is a recessive mutation. The
other is also a recessive believed to be a cinnamon. It is a light
yellowish-green bird with red or ruby eyes. A few were imported into the United
States, however, their status is unknown in the U.S. at this time.
Spectacle Parrotlets - The Europeans have developed a
gorgeous pied that is currently unknown in the United States.
